girls just wanna have fun...
of course, the fun we had in the 50s and 60s
may have been a bit different from the fun they have today...
more innocent, more unworldly, more simple...
it’s amazing to see the look on someone’s face when they notice
the Ginny dolls behind the counter...
or
the ex-cheerleaders and majorettes who immediately pick up our batons
and start twirling...
or
our old-fashioned craft kits...
making potholders and knitting
not only do they remember exactly what they made,
but who they made it for!...
or
playing dress-up
or
reciting “A my name is Alice” with a “spaldeen” or pennsy pinkie
or
signing each other’s autograph books
or
pop beads...how often we put together
necklace and bracelet “treasures”
only to take them apart and start all over again...
or
playing “sweep the parlor, move a chair”
with real metal jacks and that little pink ball...
or
playing cat’s cradle with a simple piece of string...
or
the original barbie game
where nobody wanted to get stuck with poindexter
and everyone wanted a prom date with ken...
but,
the one that always evokes the most emotion:
paper dolls...
we all say the same thing...
we sat and played with them for hours and hours...
share your childhood with that special little girl in your life...
