we believe in giving back to the community that has been so good to us throughout the years... we have established a scholarship in eileen’s dad’s memory in the business department at the local high school, not for the smartest kid, but for the kid who tries the hardest... we hand out back-to-school supplies to the neighborhood kids to start them off on a successful school year... eileen is chairwoman of the “precious preemies” at long island jewish hospital from the long island knitting guild, where knitters of all ages drop off or send handknit caps and blankets for the babies to our store... in return, the contributors receive a bobb howard’s general store gift certificate... we also run monthly contests and promotions to raise money for those on long island “having a tough time and in need of a helping hand” THIS MONTH’S CONTEST we had so many entries for our “dress the sock monkey” contest that we had to break it up into 3 age groups.... we had three 1st prize sock monkey winners & 8 honorable mention $5 gift certificate winners  photos from our 65th anniversary celebration... october 15, 2011 over 500 people turned out for a fun day halloween, 2011...
